In the month of January 2020, I was at war. I was at war to keep my peace and I didn’t even know.

In this time of my life I had moved across the country to follow Jesus. I was living without any family nearby and paying rent for the first time in my life. All was well, I managed to secure a job although it was 3 neighborhoods away. Which normally wouldn’t have been a problem but I started to have some car issues. It was the same car that I had driven all the way from Naples, FL to Los Angeles, CA. It was faithful but slowly deteriorating and car repairs had gotten really expensive and was starting to bleed me dry. As grateful as I was for being able to find work, the commute was becoming too much. So I thought getting a closer job would solve most of my problems.

But that’s just it, isn’t it? I always think this (fill in the blank) will solve whatever problem I have. And until I get this ‘thing’ I will just keep suffering. Well, it’s a good thing that I went through suffering right before I got to this point and I knew what I thought was a solution can easily lead to a bigger problem. So I pursued God and asked him to reveal his wisdom to me. “What do you mean, Olguine? How can you do that?” Well I was listening to one of Andrew Wommack’ conference Victory In this Present Life on Podcast and he said,

“The wisdom of God is already mine and I just ask God to reveal it to me.”

Andrew Wommack

As this was all happening, I was led to listen to the Kingdom Culture series from Expression 58. I got to part 6 when Pastor Jennifer Toledo talks about peace. She said,

“Peace isn’t the absence of something, it’s the presence of someone.”

Pastor Jennifer Toledo

Our Lord and Savior is the Prince of Peace. She also said that Americans are anxious about things that have not even occurred yet. Isn’t that crazy? All of us have seen God come through in our lives in so many different ways yet we still look towards the worst thing that hasn’t even occurred and we fear it. Crazy! So I chose to choose peace through whatever is happening.

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 14:27 (NKJV)

I’m so tired of being afraid or scared. I wanted complete peace. I needed to have complete peace. So I wrote down, “I Choose Peace” on a post it. Whenever I felt scared, confused, or anxious I would touch that post it and say out loud, “I Choose Peace.” It was a luxury I was determined to have no matter what. And you know what? I started to feel calmer and less worried. It wasn’t as if my problems disappeared but because I chose to not to worry about them, they no longer had control over my thoughts or emotions, peace did.

Here are some helpful things I heard along the way:

Stop listening to yourself and start talking to yourself. Speak what God has spoken to you. Listening is passive, speaking is active.

Be Alright – Evan and Eris
Peace Be Still (feat. Lauren Daigle) // The Belonging Co // All The Earth

What are you going to declare today?
What are you choosing?

Whatever you are going through there is peace. Whether it’s finances, health, relationships, there is peace for it. Not the peace of this world but the peace that God has left you as an inheritance but it’s up to you to claim it. To choose it amongst the chaos of it all. Shalom my friends!

Here’s another video to encourage you if you are conflicted with trusting God with your life.

“These Waters” – Hosanna Poetry Live Sessions

Before I leave you, here is a fun fact:

Have you ever wondered if there is a deeper meaning to the word Shalom? I saw an interesting presentation on the word Shalom via breaking down the word by its Hebrew pictograms.
The pictogram letters are: teeth – shepherd’s staff – nail/hook – waters (like a flood or tsunami.)
Interpretation of those pictograms: Devour or destroy – authority – connection – chaos and confusion.
Translation: To destroy the authority connected with chaos and confusion.

Here’s the video. The first time I heard this was when I was back in Naples and Dr. Patrica Hilliard brought it up. And I thought I should share.
